The end of January closed off the newly debuted Toronto International Design Festival (TIDF) which was headlined by the truly inspiring Interior Design Show held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto. TIDF was a six-day event promoting exhibits, symposiums and lectures held at various locations across the city. New and aspiring home owners, as well as design addicts, including Vidafine flooded the Interior Design Show to get a glimpse of the contemporary works of both international and local design talent. One part of the show floor even included some prototype designs such as this table by The Practice of Everyday Design,
and this bench called Toboggin by Devin Schaffner which could also double as a coffee table.
Independent designers were also given a chance to enlighten the public with their creative works. I especially like the display by Arron Lowe pictured above as the main photo for this post. Arron works specifically with glass, having studied it at Sheridan College’s School of Crafts and Design. As you can tell, his work is an exploration of ideas concerning beauty and the infinite.
What do you think about these dripping blobs…of paint? Seems to fit an artsy household I would say. They’re actually glass works designed by Tsunami Glassworks Inc. whose passion for organic and fluid forms and tactile objects make their designs unmistakable.
Look at this burning flame! Luster is the latest edition of a handmade sculptural lighting fixture meant to resemble a flame in burning motion. Designed by Ridgely Studio Works Inc. whose designs are also available at Atelier 688.
How about this bed frame by Suite 22 Interiors that looks as though it’s 1/2 floating in mid air? Or these interesting clocks hung across this bare wall?
All in all, the show was about transformations, embellishments and out of the ordinary designs that really make a space look distinct.
